Estradiol Side Effects & What to Expect

Estradiol is generally well-tolerated. Most side effects are mild and often improve as your body adjusts to treatment.

More Common Side Effects

• Breast tenderness
• Fluid retention or bloating
• Headache
• Mood changes
• Spotting or breakthrough bleeding
• Nausea (can be reduced by taking the pill with food)

Less Common Side Effects

• Acne or oily skin
• Fatigue or dizziness
• Changes in menstrual cycle patterns

Signs of an Allergic Reaction

Stop using estradiol and seek emergency care immediately if you experience:

• Shortness of breath
• Swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat

Other Important Safety Information

• Do not use estradiol if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• If you have a uterus, estradiol must be taken with progesterone to reduce the risk of uterine cancer.
• Do not share your prescription with others.
